ISO

ISO is the International Organization for Standardization, an independent body that publishes technical, industrial, and management standards used to certify how consistently an organisation operates.

ISO itself doesn’t certify anyone – it writes the standard, and accredited auditors check an organisation against it. ISO 9001 (quality management) is the most implemented standard globally, used by more than a million organisations, but the family covers far more: ISO 27001 for information security, ISO 45001 for workplace safety, and newer additions like ISO 42001 for AI management systems.

Certification matters commercially as much as operationally – many enterprise buyers won’t shortlist a vendor without it, regardless of how good the underlying process actually is.
