Knowledge sharing

Knowledge sharing is the exchange of information between people within an organisation, so that what one person knows doesn’t stay locked in their head.

Most organisations recognise that knowledge is a real competitive asset, so they invest in tools and platforms for it – but technology is only part of what makes it work. Culture, trust, and incentives matter just as much: some people hold back what they know because it feels like it gives them more value than sharing it would. That’s the real barrier in large organisations, more often than the lack of a good tool.

A practical habit that helps: when someone asks a question, answer it once in the shared documentation rather than just in a private reply – so the next person with the same question finds it themselves.
