Change management
Change management is the practice of preparing and supporting people – individuals, teams, or entire departments – through organisational change, so a new or improved way of working actually sticks.
A change team typically leads this work: building support for the change, addressing resistance directly, and communicating what’s changing and why. How much effort that takes scales with how disruptive the change is to existing processes.
Resistance is normal, especially when the old way of working was genuinely effective in the past – structure, culture, and equipment all tend to reinforce the status quo. Dr. Kotter’s widely used 8-step model – starting with urgency and ending with anchoring the change in culture – is one structured way to work through that resistance deliberately rather than hoping it fades.
