Process compliance

Process compliance is the practice of ensuring a business process is actually carried out the way policy, industry standards, and regulations say it should be – closing the gap between the documented process and daily practice.

Where general compliance defines what rules apply, process compliance is about how work actually gets done – whether the procedure written down is the one people follow day to day. Standards like ISO 9001, HIPAA, and SOX only mean anything if the underlying process meets them, which is why an auditor checking documents against reality is checking process compliance specifically.

The common failure mode is drift: a process gets documented once, then quietly changes as people find workarounds, and nobody updates the record. Keeping process documentation, training, and execution in one system closes that gap, because a deviation shows up as it happens rather than at the next audit.

See the frameworks, stages, and best practices for staying compliant in practice.
